Kroger opening new advanced tech and 'edgy' store in Sugar Land

SUGAR LAND, Texas —

Kroger shoppers, new high technology advancements are coming.

The large retail company has announced it will open a new high-tech location in Sugar Land.

Kroger will open its new location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 31 at 18861 S. University Blvd.

“By opening a new Kroger store in Sugar Land, we’re giving the community more options to utilize fresh ingredients for convenient and healthy meal solutions,” said Rachel Ross, Vice President of Merchandising. “With all the delicious items at this new Fresh Food Destination, Sugar Land residents can take advantage of expanded choices and more ways to save through Kroger.”

New technology known as Kroger Edge will be installed on store shelves, replacing the paper price tags.

According to the EDGE Shelf Technology website, the new installments will digitally display pricing, nutritional information, video ads and coupons to help customers with their shopping.

Edge shelf states customers will be greeted at the entrance with a scan, bag, go kiosk with hand-held scanners customers can use while shopping.

The Kroger Sugar Land store will showcase a Kitchen Place, Fuel Center and Starbucks. Kitchen Place provides the tools for home chefs to get creative preparing anything they can imagine, whether that be hearty sandwiches or gourmet dishes from scratch. Utensils, small appliances, glassware and skillets will be available for purchase to make cooking easier.

Shoppers will be able to find organic options; locally grown fruits and vegetables; international products; wine and beer; and deli products. The 100,000-square-foot grocery will also feature a pharmacy.

The community is invited to join a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Opening Day Celebration, which will be held at 9 a.m. on Aug. 31.
